Sadly, two million people die every year due to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene. We are lucky enough to turn on a tap and get clean water. However, in rural areas in both costa Rica and Nicaragua ( where i will be volunteering), women and girls often bear the burden of collecting water, spending their time walking long distances to reach unsafe water sources, instead of attending school or making a living. I Will be improving water systems and hosting information events for the local people, this will hopefully lead to good hygiene practice, which is crucial for reducing disease,poverty, and ultimately survival.
