    Story

In summer 2018, Mark Rutherford school students have the once in a lifetime opportunity to travel 6,190 miles away from Bedford, England all the way to Cambodia.
Cambodia, to the west of Vietnam is famous for its rich history and culture, it also houses the complex temple of Angkor Wat.
It will take us over a day to reach our destination where we will be staying in some of the poorest villages and towns in the country. We are very lucky and have been invited to stay with some of the locals to experience what the real day to day life and struggles are like in Cambodia.

During this amazing one month experience we will be constructing a kindergarten to provide learning opportunities for many of the children unable to get a proper education. We will be helping the children learn English, Mathematics and take part in a range of other fun and educational activities. To help the 30% of the population that don't have safe drinking water we will be building a well that a whole town can use.

Many children in the towns we will be visiting are living in single roomed houses, with usually more than five other family members living and sleeping in the same room. These families are living under the poverty line and having to struggle to provide for the family with around only the equivalent of £0.65 a day. Can you imagine living like that?

During our stay we will be sleeping in a number of traditional Cambodian housing structures (which we will also be building out of local materials) such as huts, long houses and hammocks to experience the reality of living in a developing country.
We will be dining on traditional local cuisines like, Amok, a popular Khmer dish.

To make this trip possible I will take part in a range of activities like sponsored walks and craft fairs. I am also getting a job where all my wages will go straight to my fund.
