Story
I am Ross Evans, a 16 year old currently studying at Welbeck DSFC, the Ministry of Defence's very own college for those destined for future careers as officers in the British forces. I am currently studying and training to become a Royal Naval officer.
In August I have been given the opportunity to partake in a hugely worthy cause. I will be heading to Canaries with the Jubilee Sailing Trust to partake in a voyage with ex-servicemen and veterans left with life changing disabilities. This trip 'buddies' together able bodied and disabled crewmen to give those taking part a once in a lifetime opportunity to run a tallship for a 10 day voyage. This trip aims to promote equal opportunities for all abilities as well as break down preconceptions of disabilities and break barriers of disability's to allow all to achieve something they'd never thought they'd be able to do. With my future career in the forces, especially the Royal Navy, this cause is sincerely close to me.
The voyage will take this coming New Year. I will be sailing around the Canary Islands on board the tall ship Lord Nelson. All on board will become part of the crew and will be vital to the voyage. All will have the opportunity to take part in crewman duties, such as taking watch, sailing the ship and climbing the rigging. As an able bodied crewman, I'll be there to support those who need it and allow the voyage to run smoothly.
I am aiming to raise £2200. £1200 of this will go directly to the Jubilee Sailing Trust to fund my trip while the other £600 will help me be able to travel from the UK, to the Canary's. This will also help me cover my insurance and other travel costs. Any further donations will of course go towards other necessary parts of my trip and voyage.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust is a internationally recognised charity with a worthwhile cause.
All support and donations is hugely generous and welcome. Thank you.
