Abseiling for Wheelchairs – Help Ukraine Move Again

Every day in Ukraine, individuals who have lost their mobility due to the devastating impacts of war — including children, the elderly, and the injured — are left without the essential equipment they need to move, recover, and live with dignity.

Together with three remarkable women from our Rotary club — and two incredibly brave young participants aged 13 and 16 — I am raising funds for Wheelchairs for Ukraine. This is a humanitarian project run by the Ukrainian Rotary Impact Club of Rutland. We are proud to be the first Ukrainian-led Rotary club in the UK — a volunteer-led group of displaced Ukrainians and local residents working hand in hand to transform hardship into hope, both in Ukraine and here in Rutland.

Since 2024, our club has made significant strides:

🚑 Sent 6 ambulances to Ukraine, packed with vital medical and mobility equipment

💛 Delivered aid directly to hospitals, care homes, and families in need

🛒 Supported local initiatives including Rutland Foodbank and First Responders

🤝 Built a cross-cultural network focused on youth, volunteering, and community action

On 16 August 2025, six of us will take on an extraordinary challenge — abseiling 418 feet down the National Abseil Centre, the tallest permanent abseil tower in the world. Each of these participants brings strength, commitment, and heart. For our youngest team member, this will be her first major act of charity — and I’m incredibly proud to stand beside her on this journey.

We aim to raise £2,000 to deliver wheelchairs, hoists, crutches, walking frames, and other essential mobility and rehabilitation equipment directly to those in need in Ukraine, through trusted Rotary and medical partners.

All funds raised will be donated directly to the Rotary Club of Rutland Trust Fund (Registered Charity No. 1038138) to support the Wheelchairs for Ukraine project.

We are not thrill-seekers or athletes — we are volunteers: mothers, daughters, neighbours — going over the edge for those who cannot stand on their own.
