RSY-Netzer are working together with Rene Cassin, the Jewish voice for Human Rights, to look at the challenges faced by survivors of Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking in the UK. As many as 13,000 people are estimated to be in conditions of slavery in the UK today. The message from our heritage - "because we were slaves" - calls for us to take action.

Support for these survivors is extremely limited and many end up never fully recovering from their traumatic experiences, with an alarming percentage finding themselves back in slavery conditions again.

Together with René Cassin, we want to make a difference to the lives of those who have experienced the horrors of modern slavery. We are fundraising for the Snowdrop Project, a charity based in Sheffield, which provides long-term, community support to empower survivors of human trafficking.

To begin with we are aiming to raise £300 which will go towards Snowdrop’s amazing refurbishment project. The flats that survivors are usually placed in are unfurnished with poor painting or cracks in the walls, no carpets or curtains.  Moving in to accommodation like this when you have little community and no finances makes a person feel more isolated and alone and compounds any mental health problems. This money will make the house a home and helps them to spring board in to a more stable life style. 

The £300 covers van hire to collect and deliver furniture, paint for the house, tools for broken walls, cleaning and painting, bedding, curtains, light shades any specialist time of equipment that is needed and volunteer expenses on the day.

It’s a small thing but small things can make all the difference on the road to recovery.
