Story

Verbal Dyspraxia/Apraxia is a speech disorder. Children with Verbal Dyspraxia/Apraxia have difficulty making the precise movements required for speech but there is no evidence of nerve or muscle damage. They have difficulty producing individual speech sounds and sequencing sounds together in words. This makes their speech unintelligible even to family members. There is no quick fix and no cure. Children with Verbal Dyspraxia/Apraxia need years of intensive speech therapy with a speech and language therapist to have any chance of improving their speech. Learning to talk is a very slow process and they need to pronounce a sound, cluster of sounds or a word CORRECTLY 1000 before it comes naturally. Their speech will become intelligible but even then, all our speech sounds might not be perfect and thry can be left with word finding difficulties making our speech seem disjointed. Verbal Dyspraxia/Apraxia is a condition which can stand alone or be co morbid with other conditions.
