    Story

Thank you for visiting my page.

On the 1st of October 2017 I will be running The Great Scottish Run half marathon in Glasgow to raise funds for The Alice Ruggles Trust (http://www.alicerugglestrust.org).

After several months of harassment, on October 12th 2016 Alice Ruggles was killed at her home in Gatehead by her ex partner. She was only 24 years old.

The Alice Ruggles Trust has been set up by Alice's family and friends to help raise awareness of the issues surrounding her death, such as stalking and coercive control in relationships. They will also be campaigning for better legal measures to be put in place, to ensure that legislation is effective in protecting victims of stalking.

As some of you may know, this is a very personal issue for me. A few months ago I think I would have struggled to run a full mile, however after my ex Trimaan Dhillon was found guilty of murdering Alice on the 26th of April 2017, I knew that I wanted to do something to raise awareness of the dangers of controlling and coercive behaviours in relationships.

Over the past few months I have been training extremely hard to build up my fitness levels and although my primary motivation remains to support The Alice Ruggles Trust, putting my energy into something positive has also really helped me to cope with my own anxiety surrounding these issues.

The Alice Ruggles Trust is a small but hugely important charity, which has the potential to make a really significant difference for victims of stalking, many of whom live in fear of speaking out. Please help support this amazing cause by sponsoring me in the Great Scottish Run. Even the smallest amount will be greatly appreciated.

I hit my final target today. Thanks to your generosity, I am now able to repay the kindness that Alice's family have shown me by contributing at least £850 to the Alice Ruggles Trust, with only the small hurdle of a half marathon to get through first. I haven't been quite as on top of my training plan as I would have liked. A knee injury, a stomach bug and two holidays this month have thrown me off slightly but I feel motivated and reasonably fit (by my standards). Fingers crossed for tomorrow! Thanks again for all of the support. (P4)

Shortly afterwards I discovered that Alice's family and friends had started up their own Trust to raise awareness of the issues surrounding Alice's death. In my heart I knew that this was the cause that I would want any money that I raised to go towards so at the end of August I reached out to them. I was really nervous about how this might be taken but they couldn't have been more warm and supportive towards me. (P3)

After the trial I had a lot of thoughts to process but I didn't feel ready to speak about everything openly. I started running mainly to give myself some thinking time but it also helped to get me out the house and cope with my anxiety. I started thinking that I should have an end goal in mind so that I had something to focus on. That was when I signed up for the Great Scottish Run with the intention of raising money for a relevant charity. (P2)
