Have we got what it takes to RUN a show at Gosport Boxing Club?!
Normally throughout the year, we would be putting on and attending countless boxing shows up and down the country with our competing boxers. Since we were first put into lockdown in March 2020, all of this came to a stop.
When we have been able to, we have been training in small groups on Stokes Bay seafront. The majority of our competing boxers have also been independently keeping on top of their fitness throughout the pandemic too. This is not what they all signed up for though. They are hungry to get back to doing what they do best!
The wait is almost over! Now we're coming out of lockdown, one of the first things we want to do is arrange a show at Gosport Boxing Club for our boxers to compete on. For many, this has been at the forefront of their minds since we had to close just over a year ago - some even had competitions postponed just days before they were set to step into the ring!
Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions concerning indoor events, this show will more than likely be closed to the public - which means no revenue through the door. With no income, it makes it impossible to run a show; what with us having to spend out on trophies, Officials/time-keeper/MC expenses, medical team expenses, venue registration, insurance, the list goes on... With your help, we can organise and host a show with up to 25 bouts - all in one day! This will give our boxers a chance to get back in the ring after a year of inactivity.
So! Darren, Alex, Harvey and Roland have signed up to run the Goodwood Half Marathon on Sunday 25th April , in aid of Gosport Boxing Club's first show post-lockdown. Collectively they will be running just under 50 miles with a view to raising as much as they can to get this show on the road!
On behalf of all of the competing boxers at Gosport Boxing Club, we would like to thank you for your support in getting our team of youngsters back doing what they enjoy - BOXING!
