Story

Cardioproof is a non-profit organisation based in the North East of England. Cardioproof aims to significantly improve survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest. When cardiac arrest occurs out of hospital every second counts. The sooner the heart can be restarted the better the chance of survival. Public access defibrillators can make a huge difference and help to save lives. Cardioproof also support a cardiac arrest response unit in the North East.
This year I am running the Great North Run and Carlisle 10 km race to raise awareness of Cardioproof, the work they are doing to help save lives and also to raise funds to help Cardioproof get more public access defibrillators in our communities.
I am running both races carrying a defibrillator on my back.
Strenuous exercise may put additional strain on the heart muscle and trigger complications from underlying heart conditions, therefore it is also important that defibrillators are accessible near sporting events and sports centres.
I was lucky to meet an amazing man at the Manchester Marathon who's life was saved with a public access defibrillator when he had a cardiac arrest whilst running a little over a year ago. He is also running the Great North Run. People like him would not be here today without the resources I am raising money to help provide.
Please support this cause and myself if you can, and donation of any amount will be put to good use.
