Story

I will be running/cycling to and from work for a year, in an attempt to create a bursary fund for underprivileged children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I will be donating a proportion of the money that I would have spent on public transport getting to work, to Heatherbank Primary School for bursaries. My hope is to encourage many of my friends and colleagues here in London to do the same, creating bursaries for underprivileged kids, while improving our fitness and quality of life.

While huge progress has been realized since democracy, South Africa remains a country of widespread inequality. As South Africa's late president Nelson Mandela once said: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." It provides the tools and platform necessary to elevate oneself beyond one's immediate circumstances. The impact of education has the ability to extend beyond the individual, and can affect and uplift entire families and communities. It represents an integral part in bridging the inequality divide so prevalent in South Africa today.

For R9000 (481 pounds) a year, a child attending Heatherbank Primary School not only receives a quality education, but also receives a meal a day, stationery, a school uniform, and is transported to and from school. We managed to help six children attend Heatherbank in 2017, and we hope to continue supporting them for the upcoming year.

Everyone should be afforded the opportunity of a quality education, and it is our desire and passion to see this dream realized in South Africa. Please would you support us, together we can make this dream a reality
