Story
As you know, our beautiful and extremely brave Ruth Grace was diagnosed with bone cancer on 6.10.16. Her treatment is due to last until at least June 2017 and consists of chemotherapy, surgery and an intensive physiotherapy programme. We do not yet know the full extent of the surgery that Ruth Grace will require once her first rounds of chemo are complete, but we do know that her surgery will be significant and will have a life changing effect on her mobility.
Many generous and concerned friends and family members have offered financial support to Joanne and Stuart to help them to meet their increased costs during Ruth Grace's treatment plan. The family are extremely grateful for this and are now in a position to start planning ahead a little. We have set up a Facebook page so that we can keep you up to date with her progress throughout the difficult months ahead. Please like and share this group - @ruthgracesbattle
The CLIC Sargent charity estimates that parents require on average an extra £367 per month throughout the course of cancer treatment to compensate for loss of income and to cover additional expenses during and post cancer treatment (e.g. wigs, increased heating bills, alterations to the home). Any money raised on this site will be used to pay for costs relating to Ruth Grace's care and after care as well as helping the family to cover their additional costs. A full ledger of how money is spent will be kept.
If there is any money remaining from our fundraising at the end of Ruth's treatment, it will be shared between the charities who are already providing essential support to the family during this most difficult time.
On behalf of Jo, Stu, Ruth Grace and Amelia, we thank you wholeheartedly for any contributions (however small) that you are able to make in order to ease the financial pressures on the family whilst they support Ruth through this battle.
We look forward to celebrating with you all once Ruth is given the all clear!

7 years agoWith just 12 days remaining on Ruth's Just Giving page, I wanted to say a massive thank you to all those people and organisations who have donated so generously over the past few months. You have donated almost twice the amount we set out to raise - amazing!! Ruth has been so brave since her surgery but the pain has, at times, been excruciating. She is back in hospital this week for another round of chemo and will have a further three rounds in the next few months. More detailed updates are available on Ruth's facebook page. Many thanks, Jo B

7 years agoAs most of you know, Ruth's surgery was brought forward and took place on Monday. As the tumour was larger and closer to the knee than we expected, 80% of Ruth's tibia was removed and replaced with a donor bone which is 2cm longer than Ruth's original bone. Ruth's growth plate was damaged, her tendons were cut and her nerves were stretched; her road to recovery will be long and hard. The donor bone will not grow. Tonight Amelia prayed for Ruth to be home for Christmas: a simple act of love from a little girl who misses her sister. Thank you xx

8 years agoApologies for the delay - we needed some time to process before sharing this: After Christmas, Ruth will be having 10-12cm of her affected tibia removed. This section will be replaced with a donor bone from Miami and a section of her own fibula which will be grafted onto the donor bone in order to encourage the body to accept it. Ruth will not be able to use her leg for 6 mnths and recovery will take 12-24 mnths. We would like to thank most sincerely the family who bravely authorised the donation of the bone Ruth will receive. Thank you x
