£13,385raised of £20,000 target by 348 supporters

Weʼre raising £20,000 to help Ruth recover from her sepsis, become mobile and find and adapt a home to live with her family. To be a Mum.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

In March this year the Quilietti-Bird family; Ruth, Mark, Lucia (7) and Isabella (4); started living everyone’s worst nightmare .
Out of the blue, previously healthy Mum; Ruth; became desperately ill with sepsis and they were told to prepare for the worst. However, Ruth’s fighting spirit saw her through a horrific journey of near death experiences and of moving hospitals seven times to receive specialist treatment for her respiratory, heart and renal failures. Mark was trying to juggle being with Ruth and maintaining some form of normality for their young children. Her 40th birthday was spent in Intensive Care rather than on a planned family break.
Mark was told he should say goodbye, Ruth had a do not resuscitate notice added to her health records. Ruth fought back.
When Ruth finally woke up from her coma, after 10 long weeks, her hands and feet were black and dying. Ruth, an artist, still has her hands but both legs have been amputated below the knees. Ruth’s family had more time to process this heart-breaking situation, but Ruth had little time to come to terms with the news.
Ruth’s recovery has been remarkable and she is exceeding all medical expectations, but as a final adversity she cannot return to the family home as their flat is unsuitable, being an old build with an outdoor, communal stair.
You can help us crowd fund towards helping Ruth and her husband, Mark, convert a suitable family home where their 2 small girls Lucia and Isabella can live as normal a life as possible; and to provide a mobility scooter for those more difficult days when they happen.
Your support will help make sure that Ruth does not become a prisoner in her own home.
Please give what you can to this crowd-funding campaign, please share with friends and family – when a community pulls together great things can happen and you can be part of that.

    Update from the Page owner

Ruth and Mark have found a house 😀. Now your money can be put to good use adapting it. It needs a wet room, wider kitchen and access ramps to start with. All your kind and generous donations will make a huge difference to them 🙏🏻 Please continue to share so we can ease the strain.

Ruth has been getting used to being out of hospital. Unfortunately, as you know, she remains unable to go home to Mark and the girls. She’s staying with her Mum and Dad just now, and although has top medical points this doesn’t extend to Mark and girls. Still on the lookout for any suitable accommodation in the Musselburgh area as Ruth can no longer drive, busses are out of the question and Mark will have to return to his work as a nurse soon. As always they are extremely grateful for all your kind wishes & donations. Please keep sharing😊

Ruth is continuing to make fantastic progress & even managed a couple of nights at her Mums 😊. However returning to normality is highlighting new obstacles. She can only wear her legs for a few hours a day & is otherwise wheelchair bound. During kitchen assessments it’s apparent Ruth can’t now reach normal sockets and the oven door makes it difficult to reach in to take hot things out. These will be adjustments that can be made thanks to your generosity ❤️
