Story

My daughter Raveesha and I are participating in the Prudential Ride London 19 on Sunday 4th August 2019 to raise money to fund a Palliative Care Center in Galle Sri Lanka.

I worked for several years at the Galle Teaching Hospital in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. I have seen the excellent care given to the cancer patients in the Southern Province in Sri Lanka with limited resources that has helped many cancer patients over the years. However there are no Palliative care services available in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka for patients with life-threatening illness.

My colleague and friend Dr Chrysantha Perera- Consultant Cancer Surgeon at the Teaching Hospital (Karapitiya) Galle is taking the lead role in building a Palliative Care Center for the Galle Teaching Hospital.

According to Dr Perera “Palliative care has long remained a pressing need in Sri Lanka and is fast becoming a vital necessity that can no longer be overlooked in the Sri Lankan health care system. With the elderly population fast increasing due to rapid demographic transitions, both the demand for and necessity of the service is also increasing on an almost daily basis. Whilst this particular health care provisioning service is already at quite an advanced stage in many countries around the world, the Sri Lankan health care sector has not yet succeeded in providing adequate palliative care service to people suffering from incurable illnesses. “

With the help of your donations we can help to fund a life changing Palliative Care center that will enhance the lives of many patients and their families.
