Story
Please help us raise reach our target of £30,000+ which we have committed to raise in support of the conservation and restoration of the Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park. The Chapel is all that is left of the former Royal Victoria Military Hospital, which was was completed in 1863 and treated the wounded and dying from both Britain and across the former British Empire as well as those from "enemy" countries
Many 1,000's and 1,000's were treated at the hospital across many wars, including World War 1 and 2. The American Army took over the hospital for a short period during WW2 and for this time it became an American Military Hospital. The site also has a Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery.
We have a Raise the Roof campaign. You can buy a slate for £5 or 5 for £20.00. If you can't make it to our Raise the Roof open days at the park (22/23/29/30 July 2017), please give a donation via this page. We will take a photo of the slate and write any message or name you want on the slate and send you a photo. We expect these slates to stay on the roof for the next 100 years!
The chapel when completed will house a free to enter exhibition for the public. So why not help us to preserve and maintain this amazing building - and piece of history. If you want more information on this project you can read the project managers blog here

My Father was a steward on Cunard in the late 50's and regularly passed the hospital and chapel on his voyages around the world unaware that this would be where he would raise his family - 51 years

My great-grandfather, William Barnes, was a gardener at the RV Hospital Cemetery around 1920, where the family inc my Grandmother, Ruby Augusta Barnes, lived in Cemetery Lodge. Good luck, great cause!
