Story

Ballymacarrett Royal Black District Chapter No.4 is hoping to raise money via a sponsored charity walk of East Belfast war memorials in aid of the Royal Black Institution's 2020 /2021 appeal in support of the Somme hospital to extend it's capacity for UDR, RUC etc. veterans. We hope to raise £1000 to make up for the money we would usually have raised through quizzes etc. had lockdown not been imposed. In the absence of our usual Black Saturday parade No.4 District is going to have a charity walk of remembrance in the morning of Black Saturday around 9am. We intend to split up into two teams.

Team 1 will lay poppy crosses / wreaths and walk from the Polish mural at Foxglove Street (to remember Polish and other non British allies who served in WW2 and other conflicts) to the Pitt Park memorial (to remember the victims of terrorist violence in East Belfast) to the Willowfield memorial (in remembrance of those in the area who served in WW1).

Team 2 will walk from The Baphume memorial (remembering the service of the UDR, RUC and Ulster Special Constabulary) to Schomberg House (remembering the 100s of Orange brethren and Royal Black Knights who died during the troubles period) and for those who feel fit enough to the American Military Cemetery in Cregagh Glen (in particular remembrance of the August anniversary of VJ Day and the end of WW2).
