Story

It is with great sadness that we share with you that Verity, a member of our Year 2 family, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer this autumn. Verity has a diagnosis of high-grade brain cancer that was found on her brain stem. She successfully had part of this mass removed at the end of September and has now started her course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This involves daily treatment at home and daily visits to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for radiotherapy through to December, when doctors will have a better understanding of how she has responded to treatment. Whilst a physically and mentally exhausting regime for the family, Verity continues to show great strength of spirit and tenacity and has responded well to treatment. She is hoping to join her class via Google Classroom some afternoons, which is bringing her great comfort.

Our aim as a school is to group together - parents, pupils, staff and the wider community - to support Verity and her family through fundraising, with a view to raising enough money to be able to send them on a special family trip of Verity’s choice early in 2023, provided that Verity is well enough, or else to fund specialist equipment in her home. We therefore need to complete our fundraising before Christmas.

The Sheldon’s are very appreciative of everyone's thoughts and wishes and have explained how Verity is missing being in school with her friends.
