Saintfield's story

Background

Saintfield United is a cross community football club which that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. The Club joined the Northern Amateur Football League (NAFL) in 1986 and gained intermediate status in 1987. The club currently fields two adult teams in the NAFL; the 1st XI compete in Division 1C, and the 2nd XI in Division 3C. The Club's increased membership in recent seasons has enabled it to field a 3rd XI in Division 1 and, for the first time in the 2021/22 season, a 4th XI (Saintfield Utd Swifts) in Division 2, of the Newcastle and District Amateur Football League (NADAFL), where it all started back in 1972.

In addition, the Club's junior section fields 3 teams for youths between the ages of 11 and 17, and also operates a Mini-Soccer scheme for children of primary school age.

In late 2017, Saintfield Utd Football Club received full planning permission for the complete redevelopment of our Comber Road base, the first phase being the construction of a full size soccer pitch, community garden and associated car parking. This was completed in 2019.

The Club's ambition to progress the development of our facilities, which will include a floodlit training area for the benefit of our members and the local community, has refocused following the pandemic. In the spirit of the sponsored cycle in 2018, the cross Mourne Saintfield Century in 2019, Saintfield FC Triathlon in 2022 and the Mourne Coastal Challenge in 2024
