Story
When did you last stick your tongue out? Do it now. Easy isn't it? But for my son Scott this simple childish gesture has taken years of heroic effort to achieve, because of his many physical challenges.
To reward his efforts, we're asking people to stick their tongues out for Scott; to post their pictures and donate whatever they can to support him.
Our adapted bungalow is due to be sold and we have the chance to buy it but time is of the essence! Our target of £280,000 would secure his home for life.
Scott has cerebral palsy - a coverall term for brain damage. There are different types of cerebral palsy. Scott has spastic quadriplegia which means the messages from his brain to the muscles throughout his body don’t always contain the right information. It makes everything in his life very hard work. However, he’s doing a brilliant job against these odds. He can now stick his tongue out at will and this means he has gained control of many muscles in and around his mouth.
Despite his progress, I know that Scott will have to fight very hard for a decent future - life with his disability is going to be a constant challenge in a world that’s not generally very accommodating.
I’m determined to do everything I can to take away some of the obstacles. One of the biggest and most fundamental challenges is to take steps right now to give him a secure home for life. This is where we really need your help. I don’t imagine this will be easy for a moment. There is no miracle treatment or operation for Scott’s condition - if there was I’d be asking for help to fund it. Instead I’m aiming to give him the security and space to live and make progress with his condition. Our home can give him that if you can help us .
