Story

British Rohingya Community… and You!

In 2009, a number of Rohingya families came to live in Bradford, England, as refugees under the UN’s & EU’s Gateway Protection Programme. A decade on, we still think of Burma and the persecution and violence that our people are facing. Many of us arrived here after living in the refugee camps that we now take and distribute aid to. Camps like that of Kutopalong, in Bangladesh, where, in 2017, we witnessed thousands and thousands of people in make shift polythene shelters, totally exhausted and tired. Mostly children and women, with their meagre belongings. It is heart breaking

The consequences of this genocide, this human tragedy, are made worse by the fact that the Myanmar government is in total denial. There is a media blackout in Rakhine state, so the only information that is made public is what the military wants us to hear.

The only solution to the current crisis, is for Myanmar to stop persecuting and killing Rohingya and to reinstate full citizenship and human rights.

BRC has given a small office from the Bradford council and we need financial support to keep an employed staff to run our campaign.
