Story

Hello, our names are Alfie Mulligan and Harry Warner – together we are planning a challenge like none other.

Over the past four years getting to know each other we have done some amazing things, running the entire width of Luxembourg, countless marathons, and the boundary of Salford. However, this time we wanted to do something that will trump the previous runs, completing a challenge that we know that no one else has done before – whilst also hoping to raise a lot of money.

And that is – running 200km from Salford in Oxfordshire to our home in Salford, Greater Manchester in two days - we have set the date for the 17th and 18th May but that may change to the weekend after with weather being a key factor.

We wanted to do something that would be challenging but also incredibly unique.

Together we are aiming to raise over £2,500 – both for the charity Mind and a 10% donation to our rowing club Salford University Boat Club.

We are hoping to raise money for Mind as we have both been closely connected to people who have suffered from mental health and believe that no one should suffer alone. And even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need – and, knowing we are running for something so closely personal for both of us, we know we won’t stop.

And after losing someone very close to us last year – we feel that it is the least we can do to push ourselves to our physical breaking point.

As well as the donation to Mind, 10 per cent of the funds raised will also be donated to the club that strengthened our bond together – the SUBC. We are hoping to donate some money to the club, so that we can continue its legacy as one of the oldest society at the University of Salford.

We are fully aware that running this distance is incredibly dangerous, risky, and challenging – but we are also dedicated to going above and beyond for charity.

For us personally this is about pushing our bodies to the limit and show mental toughness to finish this momentous challenge for a fantastic cause – that I know has deeply affected a lot of us.

We have set our goal at £2,500 – and hope to surpass this goal – but, to push ourselves even further if we do surpass the goal, Alfie will die his hair for the run (if that isn’t a small incentive, we don’t know what is)

We hope we can raise a lot of money – and we will see you at the finish line.

Thank you Alfie and Harry (Team PorkChop)
