Story

We are aiming to raise £4000 -6000 in total for a motorised wheelchair attachment pack to make an ex colleague and friend’s life more bearable after an horrendous cycle accident earlier this year shattered his hopes and dreams he had for his retirement. Mike who has lived in Rishton with his wife and family for over 30 years taught at Northcliff special school until it closed then moved to be in charge of Special Needs at Colne Primet high school. He is a very warm family orientated man who loves spending time with his children and grandchildren. He led a very active life and enjoyed participating in a variety of outdoor pursuits.

In March this year Mike was thrown from his bike and ended up unconscious with a broken neck and severed aortic nerve which has left him permanently paralysed from the chest down. For most of this year he has been at a rehabilitation centre learning how to adjust to his new situation. He is finally back home where he is facing many new challenges. Many changes have had to be made to the house including the building of a downstairs extension. All of this has been funded from their retirement savings. The accident has turned the family’s life upside down.

As colleagues and friends we want to help make their lives a little better. A motorised wheelchair attachment would give Mike more freedom, greater independence and improve his quality of life.

Please help us raise money towards the cost of the attachment.

Thank you for reading.
