Story

My loving husband Chris was just 43 when he passed away.

His battle with cancer was very short, the 9th June 2020 is the day it all started with his GP, various tests were carried out and on the 23rd June following an endoscopy we were told it looked like a tumour and he needed a stent fitted to help the bowel obstruction. On the 29th June we had the devastating news that the tumor was cancer Chris was immediately admitted as his blockage was so bad but the Stent couldnt be fitted just yet, this took place on the 10th July, on the 11th July I rushed Chris back into A&E following complications, he was home a couple of days but he was very poorly and by the 15th July he was admitted with what turned out to be an infection. Chris remained in hospital until the 27th July.

Chris first entered Brent Ward on the 20th July and on Friday 24th July he started his first Chemo session it was touch and go whether they should start because of the infection but they decided to go ahead. On Monday 27th July Chris came home, before we left the hospital an Advanced Nurse Practitioner on the ward called Rachel spoke privately to us and advised us that if we wanted to do anything significant in life then to do it now whilst Chris was still well enough.

This prompted us to re, re-book our wedding that we had postponed in May due to Coronavirus to next August, I got on the case and re-booked our wedding for Saturday 29th August 2020.

Chris came through the first round of Chemo well with very little change or discomfort, the next couple of weeks was full of Chemo, Hospital visits, blood tests, Oncology appointments etc

On Friday 21st August Chris started his third round of Chemo the following day we had our Wedding Rehersal but Chris deteriorated and by Tuesday 25th August he was back on Brent Ward, it was touch and go if he would be out for the wedding but he was I collected him about 4.30 on Friday 28th August many of the ward saw him off which was lovely.

Saturday 29th August 2020 at 2pm we got married it was A beautiful day the weather was sunny and although restricted to 30 we had a lovely special day.

Unfortunately Chris went down hill quite rapidly and that weekend was no exception on Monday 31st August i called an ambulance as Chris was so poorly we spent time in A&E and was then moved to Brent Ward on Tuesday 1st September we were told there was nothing more they could do and would move Chris to a Hospice on the Wednesday, he was moved late morning I was with him the whole time, our young son visited for a few prescious hours but unfortunately at around 7.30pm my wonderful, amazing husband, best friend and soul mate passed away.

I still cannot believe he has gone it happened all so very quickly.

I love him dearly and miss him so much he has left a huge hole in mine and our sons life and that of many who knew him, I know he would want to give something back to those who helped him and I through this and to help others who have to stay on Brent Ward so im setting this up in his memory not only to raise funds for the ward but to get some kind of memorial for Chris in Looe, the place he and I loved to visit with our son and where we both felt at home, relaxed and where we first met.

Thank you all for reading and for those who contribute it means so much to me . xx
