Story

The Salome McKenzie Foundation was formed by the children and grandchildren of Salome McKenzie to cover the cost of school fees for children in need, in order to improve their chances of achieving a higher standard of living.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world - Nelson Mandela.
Salome’s Story
Born in Chivhu, Zimbabwe to a tomato farmer & Methodist minister, Salome McKenzie was born during an era when education was prioritised for male children. Growing up in colonial Rhodesia meant that the standard of education given to native Africans was very basic.
Salome's story is a story of determination to overcome the circumstances she was born into and gain employment beyond her education. She also fought to ensure that at lack of education would never be a hindrance to her family and those she came across. Her story is one of strength in the face of adversity and yet kindness and a desire to see all she came across succeed in gaining education and employment to change their personal circumstances.
Zimbabwe's harsh social, economic and political environment is currently providing huge challenges for children in the rural areas especially those that have been orphaned due to HIV and Aids leaving grandmothers no longer capable of working responsible for feeding clothing and educating young children.
In Salome’s memory, her children and grandchildren follow suite in the example that she taught of charity beginning at home and have formed this foundation to continue the work of providing education to children, changing the trajectory of generations to come.

We currently fund Moreblessing and Violet, 14 year old girls at Madzivire high school Chivhu.
