Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are trying to raise money to pay for the private physiotherapy which Sam desperately needs after being badly failed by the healthcare provider who were supposed to look after him.
Sam is my nephew - a 15 year old boy who lives in Bristol. He has Grade 5 Cerebral Palsy, along with severe dystonia, epilepsy, visual impairment and a tracheostomy.
In 2019 Sam developed mild scoliosis - a bending of his spine.
By May 2024 it was stable and well maintained, and bending at around 20 degrees.
Unfortunately in the summer of 2024 the well established and experienced Therapy team based at his school left. They were supplied by Sirona Care and Health, and Sirona not only reduced the amount of therapies provided within the school, but also replaced the accomplished and experienced team with inexperienced therapists who lacked the knowledge to care for complex children like Sam.
As a result Sam experienced a catastrophic collapse of his spine, which went from a mild 20 degrees to over 90 degrees in under 10 months.
His pelvis and rib cage now rub together causing excruciating pain, his ribs are deformed and his quality of life has been severely affected. He now needs a risky and complex operation on his spine to try and straighten it as much as possible. An operation he is not expected to survive.
His parents felt they had no choice but to withdraw their consent for the Sirona Therapists to continue working with Sam, and have employed an Independent Physio and an Independent O.T., who are both trying to reverse some of the damage, and keep Sam in good health so he is ready for the surgery next Spring/Summer. Both therapists have years of experience working with children with complex disabilities, and that experience comes at a price.
Sam’s current OT and physio costs are around £800/month to keep him in good health for his upcoming surgery, so please give what you can.
Thank you
