    Story

    Hi Guys,
In just under a months’ time I am heading out to Nakuru, Kenya where I will be volunteering in a school for 3 to 7 year olds called the Walk Centre. The Walk Centre is a not-for-profit organisation committed to helping the children and families of the Hilton slum area, these families reside on the edges of Nakuru’s local rubbish dump. Nakuru is Kenya’s largest town (there are 3 bigger cities). The centre aims to provide the children with the basic human right to education, regular meals and offer them an alternative way of life.

Right now the school cannot take children beyond the age of 7, at this young age some of the children are then leaving education altogether. Our project is to assist in building a new school next to the current one so that the Walk centre can extend its age range and the children can continue their education up into the teens, construction is well underway and we will be continuing the effort in July. We will also be helping to teach the children too.
To help us with the teaching and sports we will be doing in the schools, the school has spent our fundraising money on sports kit and equipment for this and Leicester city FC have kindly donated a large number of football shirts the kids can use!! The more money we can get together, the more we are able to put towards resources to take with us which will more greatly enhance the student’s education and therefore quality of life in a part of the world that greatly needs it.
On the first of July, I am taking part in the Black country half marathon (and by far my furthest running distance yet) that takes place along the canal side from Wolverhampton to Birmingham city where I hope to raise money to help support our expedition and the amount of resources we are able to bring to the projects in Kenya. Therefore, it would be greatly appreciated if anyone would help me
