Story

I will soon be embarking on a challenging volunteer trip incorporating work at local community projects situated in impoverished areas of Southern India. In order to generate the funds required to go on the trip I have been working part time for the last year alongside various fundraising activities. I have raised over £2000 so far but with just 2 weeks left to go I still have another £1000 to raise, striving to achieve my fundraising target i’m about to embark on my biggest challenge yet

The Midnight Mountain 1/2 Marathon is no ordinary marathon. Set in the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, the course takes you through forests, over streams, past waterfalls and up mountains. The difference between this and any other mountain marathon, is that you start at 5.30PM and have to finish before the midnight cut off - Brutal! Saturday 23rd June

If you would like to find out more about the activities I will be doing in India and the impact that my trip will have see the below information:
Muttom IPS - Access to Education
A well maintained and healthy learning environment is directly linked to positive educational outcomes and extensive research that shows that the learning environment is a key driver for change. By helping to improve the school's facilities during your community engagement phase you will be contributing to the children's employment opportunities and their chances of success. By breaking the cycle of poor education and poverty your work will really help reach all corners of the community and have a lasting impact.
Haripad is a municipality in Alappuzha District, Kerala located between Alappuzha and Kollam on the National Highway 66. Haripad is close to the Arabian Sea and is known as the land of art and artists. Haripad is popular for the temples, the two most famous temples in Haripad are Sree Subrahmanya Swamy temple and Mannarasala Temple.
The school has 40 students and 4 teachers but only has a very basic toilet facility. There is no running water to the toilets and the school authorities have requested help since the local Government and the community cannot afford to construct one. Since the cost could be beyond one groups budget and skill, we have divided the project into 3 phases:
Project 1: Clear up the area and construct the flooring of the toilet. Buy a motor and water tank for the pipeline system.
Project 2: Continue with the side walls and complete the plastering of the building. Start with the pipeline system to connect water to the toilets.
Project 3: Finish off the roofing work. Complete the plumbing work and taps for water supply. Inaugurate and hand over the facility to the school. The school also has additional requirements of plastering the classrooms, flooring and tiling the rooms if possible. If the groups could raise additional funds, we could contribute in the flooring work.
