    Story

    1 IN A MILLION
My cousin Abigail has a rare condition called AHC which they believe affects 1 IN A MILLION

What is living with AHC like? Well it is a very complex disease. We have found describing it in terms of more familiar diseases to be helpful.

    - Movement problems like Cerebral Palsy
    - Learning challenges like Autism
    - Behavioural issues like ADHD
    - True Epilesy in at least 50% of cases (Abigail falls into this)
    - Bouts of temporary paralysis that last for minutes to days/months at a time (Abigail has just come out of a 3 week episode, which meant that she was house-bound for the whole time)

The list of triggers that can set off AHC episodes is very long and sadly only lists the ones we are currently sure of. Episodes can come on at any time and for any reason

Currently Abigail’s condition is incurable and essentially untreatable. Sadly Abigail is classed as life limited due to her complex medical needs.

My family have decided that a great opportunity for Abigail would be to make the garden a safe and fun place for her to use. Somewhere she and they can relax all year round.

The back Garden needs a complete makeover to make it Abigail friendly and usable for when Abigail is both in and out of AHC episodes something that Abigail and her little brother can use together on good days without too much anxiety/ noises etc for Abigail and on bad days when in episode somewhere Abigail can rest, A garden Abigail can use all year round. To do this we will need to make the garden completely grass/bark free and we plan on doing this with Rubber Mulch. The family and friends of “Team Mallon” are getting together to raise money and to get the Mallon Garden Makeover done.

To help raise money on the 12th March 2017, I will be taking part in the London Half marathon. It would make a huge difference to Abigail and her families life if we could help raise some money to go towards her garden project!
