At the end of March this year Andy was involved in a head on motorbike accident that nearly cost him his life. He suffered 2 cardiac arrests, a level 3 coma and his lungs collapsed. Unfortunately Andy was left with spinal cord injuries levels C5-C7 meaning he is now paralysed from the top of his chest down with very little use of his hands.

Since the accident Andy has spent the last 9 months in 4 different hospitals including Sheffield Princess Royal spinal unit, where he had many hours of physio and occupational therapy sessions to teach him how to live independently as much as he can. He is still in Grantham hospital waiting for a care plan to be set up so he can come home with full time carers.

This has been so hard on Andy from being so independent and active to relying on others to do everything for him. He is the strongest person I know and still manages to be the cheeky, positive, determined, bad influence he always has been! ;)

As his partner the day of his accident is a memory that unfortunately is etched into my brain as I thought I may lose him. I’ve really struggled with our world being completely turned upside down and becoming his full time carer as well as his partner and also working full time. People ask how I’m managing, truth is, after nearly losing someone you love you’d do anything to keep them safe and happy.

Among other things we’re having to completely re-design our home (we bought our 1st house together 3 months prior). We’ve also found a stand-up wheelchair which would greatly help Andy both physically and mentally, going from towering over people at 6’3” to being under 5’ has greatly affected his confidence.

Over the coming months I’m going to be taking part in as many events as I can to raise money to help Andy, starting with the Lincoln Santa run. If anyone could kindly help by donating anything they can it would be greatly appreciated or even just sharing this page!
