Story
Many of you may know about our amazing little boy Harry, aged 4 who has spastic diplegia. This is a form of cerebral palsy that affects both of his legs making him unable to walk or balance. Harry was diagnosed with this disability at 18 months due to him being born 10 weeks premature.
Harry is such an outgoing, bright and determined little boy who loves to be outside with his sister’s Katie and Holly. However Harry gets extremely upset when he sees his older sister playing on her bike, knowing he can not do the same. Harry constantly asks ‘ why can’t I ride a bike like Katie?’Both my husband and I have to answer this heart breaking question without a positive answer. However Harry now has the chance to be able to ride a bike just like his sister with a specially designed trike. With this Trike, not only will Harry be able to enjoy something that most of us take for granted but it will also give him his physiotherapy at the same time. This physio will be invaluable as Harry has also been referred for Selective dorsal rhizotomy.(SDR) surgery is a procedure that treats muscle spasticity caused by abnormal communication among the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. It corrects muscle spasticity by cutting the nerve rootlets in the spinal cord that are sending abnormal signals to the muscles. With this surgery Harry may one day walk.We have decided to try and raise the money for Harry to have this bike and with this a family member Matt who is also the landlord of the Hare&Hounds in Maidstone is stepping up and doing a skydive, not only for Harry but also the Charity ‘Action for Kidz’.This amazing charity helps fund equipment like the trike for children with disabilities and any funds left over after Harry’s trike will be donated to this charity. Matt will be doing the skydive on 23rd September at Headcorn airfield.Any money going towards Harrys trike and this fantastic cause will be very greatly appreciated.
