    Story

I am a shepherdess in West Sussex. 4 years ago, I took my collie, Meg, for training to a sheepdog training woman. I was just leaving after the session and saw an underweight collie in a small pen. I asked if he was ever let out, "no because he runs off" she replied. He was 4 and a half at the time. I asked if she used him on sheep and she said,

"he's a runt and runs round in circles so he's no good, and I didn't have the heart to shoot him"

I think he must have been penned with no people around him all that time because he is TERRIFIED of people. I'm literally the only person in the world he loves and trusts. He had chewed all the hair off his tail and was lame on one side because he'd run round in circles for 4 years in that pen.
I simply couldn't bear to leave him and said,
    "Can I have him?"
    "If you like" she replied
I named him Sweep. I took him home. For a while it was awful, he was terrified of tv, even now if I click my fingers or clap, or dance! he cowers. He wasn't house trained, unvaccinated, uncastrated and thin. Took him to vets and within a year he looked like different dog.
2 days ago, he jumped out of pickup as usual, 30 minutes later he collapsed, seemingly partially paralysed. He is currently at Fitzpatricks Vets in Eashing in Surrey (the SuperVet on TV) His insurance only runs to £3000 and will only cover the MRI and hospitalisation. I said to the vet if it means an operation you'll have to put him down as I simply have no money.

Unbelievably, this happened 2 hours before I left to collect my collie Meg from Fitzpatricks after her bilateral cruciate ligament operation. That cost £6000. Half of that was insurance and the other half I have just managed to get a bank loan for. So I took Sweep in and left him there and brought Meg home. I'm unable to get a second bank loan as it was only a week ago they approved the £3000 for Meg.

Thank you so much in advance if you are able to help.

Dear everyone, and particularly to Danii Lindress and Angela Lee Smith. I don't know how to thank you enough. To each and every donator, a huge hug from Sweep and me. Fantastic news!!! I have managed to get a loan via a company that work with Fitzpatrick Vets. They have lent me £2500, so with the £3000 insurance, we are just about ok. They will operate either today or tomorrow. As I write Meg is laid at my feet, slowly getting better after her cruciate operation. It never rains but it pours!! Once again, a huge thank you. Sam x

Dear supporters. A huge thank you for all your immense kindness, you are all amazing. Good news today from vets, in that I only have to find £3000. Am crossing everything to hope I can find it in time. Please forward this page to anyone you think may be able to help. In future I shall insure all dogs I own for £10,000. A lesson learnt. Sam

Dear all immensely kind donators. I'm am overwhelmed at everyone's kindness, it will all help towards this horribly expensive operation. However, I had a little good news today; Susan Murphy the vet who is performing the operation, which is a spinal neck injury (he had his MRI today) said the cost of the operation would only be £3000, so that at least is a smaller amount to find. They want to operate ASAP. Please, if you know anyone you could forward this appeal to, then please do. Once again, a huge thank you. Sam May x
