Okay… so I AM NOT a runner. It is something that has never come easy to me, and right now I’m so burnt out from Summer. However- I’m going to dig deep and find some motivation because this September I want to run 50 miles (not a lot to some, but will certainly challenge me) in order to raise some funds to help purchase more equipment for my nephew, Blake. So my aim is to run at least 25 days out of the month (some rest days factored in in case I require them).

Some of you may remember that I also did a bungee jump last year to raise money for Blake. All of the money raised was so enormously appreciated by my sister & brother in law and went towards buying pieces of equipment to help make Blake’s life more comfortable and improve his quality of life.

A brief background:

Blake is an incredible little boy, who despite all he goes through on a daily basis, still soldiers on and finds smiles for his Mummy, Daddy and big sister, Vienna.

Back in early 2022 Blake suffered a stroke at the age of just 12 months old. Following this, Blake and his family have been through what no family should ever have to endure.

Blake had further multiple strokes and he and his Mummy spent just over 16 long weeks in Leeds General Infirmary in the initial period of Blake’s illness.

Blake’s needs following his strokes are complex and he requires round the clock care. He has been left with serious health needs, brain damage and is physically disabled. Regular physio and administering medications and feeds are just part of the care required for Blake each day, as well as continuously trying to keep Blake comfortable and stimulated through sensory avenues.

Blake is growing into a big, handsome boy and whilst the equipment purchased through last years fundraiser is still very much in use and helping to make life easier on a daily basis, there will always be other aids and equipment that could help to enhance Blake’s quality of life further.

With the funds raised, Kelly and Chris are hoping to buy a specifically adapted flotation aid called a ‘Stabilo Bath Bagel’ for Blake to use to access hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is something which is extremely beneficial for Blake as the warm water instantly eases off his tense muscles and makes him more comfortable. These aids come at a cost of over £800, so anything raised will be an enormous help 😊
