Story

Martha Moo is our three year old pug. We got her from a lady whos failing health meant she couldn‘t look after this lively puppy, another pug and 6 chihuahuas! She has always been a real character, and everyone that meets her falls in love with her

Martha likes the seaside, so we took a day off work to take her and her adopted sister Maggie May to Scarborough. We were headed to the beach, the girls had on their leads and harnesses, when for some reason known only to Martha, she bounded over the sea wall! She somehow slipped out of the harnass and fell approx 30 feet onto concrete below. A lovely local couple quickly took us to a vets in scarborough, where she had painkillers, a sedative and x-rays. Her pelvis was broken and she couldn‘t put weight on her back legs, but she had feeling in them. We were referred to a specialist vet referral centre closer to home in Wakefield.

On Thursday she had an MRI scan, which showed bruising to her spinal cord and possibly a bit of disc pushed into the nerves. A broken pelvis in dogs is not too bad in itself and can heal with rest. The real worry is that she wasn‘t able to wee. When I went to visit she was really drugged up and it was so heartbreaking to see my baby without the familiar wag in her curly tail, it was just hung limply down, and she looked so depressed.

However, when we visited on Saturday, she was off the methadone and seemed more herself. She tried to crawl onto my knee, and when I put my hand under her tummy to help her, she had a wee! She has since managed another by herself, but still isn’t able to stand.

The vets are hoping with rest and physio she will recover. For now she is still at the hospital. Our vets bills so far are £3600, and her insurance only covers £2000. At £200 a night at the hospital, plus the cost of drugs and physio when she comes home, this figure could reach £5000.

We just want that curly tail to wag again, and Maggie May is missing her big sister so much!

Please help if you can. Thanks for reading xxx
