Story

Simba's Sanctuary

Eight years ago we rescued our first rabbits and provided a safe forever home, one of our first rescues Einstein is still with us and the 'old man' of our family. Over the years we have expanded and rebuilt our 'village' and currently we have nine rescue rabbits from Honey our largest flemish Giant to the 'old man' Einstein a miniature lion head.

Sadly Honey's partner Simba passed away peacefully with Honey by his side a few months ago and we are doing this in honour of Simba and his legacy. Earlier this year we embarked on building new purpose built homes for all our rabbits and to extend the sanctuary with the aim we could take in more rabbits in need of rescue homes and the odd Guinea Pig. The rising costs of vets, building materials and food is taking its toll now and we need your help please.

The 'house' in the picture above cost over £700 in materials alone and is home to our latest rescues who are two couples that we managed to take together. Its heart breaking when we cannot accept more rabbits due to not been able to create more homes, despite having the space. Each home includes a large outside area that leads to a secure walled garden that they all spend many hours exploring each day.

Each 'house' is fully insulated, and have all the mod cons a rabbit needs but we would love to build more. Our target is to create another four 'family houses' before winter comes and take in more rescues into our forever home.

Our current feed cost is around £100 a week with hay, Straw, dry and fresh food and our vets bills can be upwards of £200 when we take in a new rescue. Recently when we rescued Lola we had vets bills in excess of £500 due to her condition and need for urgent medical help.

With your help we can rescue more rabbits and give them a forever home in Simba's Sanctuary. Our plans for explanation have no bounds with over 2,000 sq ft of barns possible to expand the 'village' into and 2/3rds of an acre of safe walled lawns to frolic in. Inspired by a recent program we plan on creating a large outdoor underground system next year and have the ultimate play area.

All our rabbits are neutered and we are a forever home. We are based in Rural Staffordshire and have travelled to Somerset to rescue rabbits in the past. Lets get these new 'houses' built before winter and give a rescue the warm safe home for Christmas.
