Weʼve raised £2,880 to Help the I Afrika street boys project to turn three acres of underexploited land into a sustainable farm to produce food and income

    Story

I Afrika is a grassroots organization which provides holistic care for boys left to fend for themselves on the harsh, unforgiving streets of Nairobi.
Many of them (some as young as seven) have been beaten by the police, used and abused by criminal gangs, preyed upon by sexual predators and become addicted to jet fuel, which they take to deal with their fear and hunger.
I Afrika runs a home and a school for 50 rescued boys and provides food and medical outreach to over 200 more who are too addicted to jet fuel to come in off the streets. But the project is struggling to survive.
So I have enlisted the help of permaculture expert Jessie de Boer of Barefoot Solutions who made half an acre of rocky soil at a school in Kangemi so productive that it now feeds 200 children three times a week. (http://bit.ly/2gsDKz0)
She has drawn up a one year plan which will give I Afrika’s boys and staff the skills to turn the centre’s three acres of underexploited land into a sustainable farm producing fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs to provide nutrition for the boys and a surplus to create a valuable source of income.
So I am raising funds to pay for the training, tools, irrigation pipes, a solar pump, seedlings, fruit trees, and a 400 bird chicken house, incubator, chicks, vaccinations and chicken feed.
If you can give even a few pounds to buy a chicken or a few yards of irrigation pipe I will be so grateful and you will make a huge difference to the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable children.
    Thank you!

Being new to crowdfunding I forgot to renew the original page so I have now made this new one. Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated - we raised 13% of our target in a month! The boys are really excited about the farm and we are getting tenders from local builders to build the chicken house so please keep tweeting and sharing the link! Cartoonist and sculptor Annie Tempest is coming in January to do some creative sessions with the boys and she will be selling the work she produces to help with the funding.
