Samuel's Walk - Sharing Hope
We would like to give every Year 3 child in Monmouth a brilliant book that will help them learn more about our wonderful creator God and His creation.
Samuel had a real faith in God and Jesus, and he wished his friends would also share his faith. We can't think of a better way to honour Samuel's memory than to help other children learn about Jesus, and we think this book can help to do just that.
"Indescribable" by Louie Giglio is fun and engaging, bright and colourful. It explores the incredible wonders of creation - from dinosaurs to grasshoppers; from the biggest star to the smallest plant, exploring such varied themes as our imagination, the earth, space, the animal kingdom and the human body! With a bible verse, prayer and some amazing facts in each devotion, we love this book and what it teaches our boys... and us!
We, the Barker Family (Jim, Cat, Robin and Lucas) will be walking up a local hill and we would love for you to sponsor us to help raise money for the books. The hill is not very high, but will be enough of a challenge for Robin's little legs! The important thing to us is that we are doing this together, for a cause we really believe in, to coincide with Samuel's birthday in early November.
Three local schools (that's 101 pupils) are looking forward to receiving the books, and we are hoping a further 2 schools will also be happy to receive them.
(***Update: 10 schools are now going to receive the books!***)
Our aim is that every year around the October half term, we will do a walk to raise money for Year 3 students in and around Monmouth to receive a copy of this book. As Robin's legs grow, so will the height of the hills we climb... we have great hopes of one day doing Offas Dyke, Hadrian's Wall and maybe even the Camino de Santiago de Compostela!!
Please join with us in prayer that each child who receives a book will come to know and love the Lord Jesus. Thank you.
*****UPDATE AFTER THE WALK*****
On 4th November - Samuel's Birthday - we set off up Garway Hill. It was a beautiful, crisp Autumnal morning. Robin's little legs not only carried him right to the top, they also ran all the way to the bottom, leaving Jim and I trailing behind!
Later in the afternoon, the books were given to Samuel's classmates, and have been really well received by pupils and adults alike.
We have more great news to report - our initial fundraiser exceeded the amount we needed for books for the 5 schools, so we asked some more schools in the Monmouthshire area if they would like the books too. We are delighted that there are now 10 schools who would like to receive the books, so we've upped our target. We are so very grateful to all our friends and family who have helped raise over £1,300... we'll cast the net a little wider now for the extra £700 we need!

Thank you everyone for your generous support. I have posted an update on the main page - the short of it is the walk was great, you've helped us raise £1,300 (WOW!), the initiative has grown so that 10 schools now want the book (BRILLIANT!), and so we need an additional £700!! We'll be doing this every year, so the hills will get bigger as we walk (or try to keep up) with Robin's pace! A heartfelt thank you to you all, from all of us. xx
