Hi there, my name is Sandesh. I am a medical student at Keele University. I want to spend my summer gaining invaluable experiences working with animals and appreciate different cultures and people of the world – goals driven by my ambition to be a more compassionate, humane and culturally sensitive doctor.
As I spent a significant part of my childhood on a farm in Nepal, I have always been incredibly passionate about the ethics and welfare of animals. I want to help with the care and rehabilitation work that aims to improve the quality of life of endangered animals. I also want to work with the individuals who actively protect and look after the endangered animals to better understand the socioeconomic challenges that they and the animals face as a result of our ever-changing climate and landscape. I am determined to use this experience to help me become more caring and educated for my career and as an individual.
I aim to volunteer for the ‘Wildlife Conservation Project’ run by ‘Frontier’ in South Africa. The project provides a sanctuary for Africa’s ‘Big 5 Animals’ (lions, buffalos, leopards, elephants and leopards) which are under the constant threat of poaching. I will be spending my time helping with the rescue, daily care and rehabilitation of the animals that have been orphaned or injured. I will also be conducting fence repairs, collecting survey data and removing invasive vegetation to help maintain an ideal environment for the animals. The funds will be used to help run the project and support my stay.
To gather adequate funds I am participating in the Colour Rush run on June 25th 2017 for which I am seeking sponsorship.
