Story

Hello everybody

My name is Eldene (Denie) Gordon Buchanan.

In May 2018, I went to hospital for what felt like the gazzillionth time. I had blood tests because I was getting very poorly and was admitted straight away. Over three weeks I had many tests but they couldn't find out what was wrong with me. I celebrated my 11th birthday in hospital, but was very poorly. I couldn't even eat! I had lots of tests, scans, X Rays and operations. It was scary but I was brave. My illness became so aggressive I ended up in intensive care. Whilst I was in HD I was finally diagnosed. They told my mum I had Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and the rarest kind!
They immediately started me on a pre phase of chemotherapy. I know that it is to make me better but it is painful and makes you feel very sick.
I was in hospital for 6 weeks before I got to spend a few days at home with my brothers and sister before having to return.
I know I’m really poorly but I am a strong and determined young man with a flamboyant personality.  My dreadlocks are my trademark, but I’m already starting to loose my hair.
My two younger brothers have said they are also going to cut their long hair off to support me!
I love drawing, reading and running. Most of all I LOVE Harry Potter!  I would love to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios with my Mum, nan, brothers and sister to make some happy memories.
My friends, school and family are all helping to raise money to make my dream come true. There’s a chocolate tombola at Bulwell Academy. My other friends are holding a raffle, tombola and stuff on 25th July and theres a 5km race in my name called the Dene Dash with a medal designed by my mate Jack.
My school also held a Harry Potter day just for me. It's all made me feel very special.
If you can help in anyway it would be really appreciated because this is a really difficult time for my family and I.

I will keep you posted on my progress!

Thank you so much.
Denie.
