Monument Park High School Choir was started in 2015 under the leadership of Ms Christine Bam.
They have exceeded the expectations of such a young, new choir. Their achievements in the last year have been phenomenal:
• A performance in the V&A Waterfront Arena with The Ebony Choral from America
• Tygerberg International Eisteddfod 84% (Gold)
• Helderberg Eisteddfod 90% and winner of category
• ATKV new comers – Silver
• Artscape Schools Art Festival – participants and then invited to be in the Gala Evening (12 schools from 240 schools were chosen to take part in the Gala Evening)
• National Eisteddfod of South Africa – Diploma winners(Highest Achievement)
This has resulted in the invitation to participate and perform in England as well as Wales, in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.
As a result of the above achievements, hard work and dedication from the students, as well as the invitation received, we are looking to send +/- 60 students on tour - some of which have never left the area in which they grew up - the local informal settlements.
We as parents have several projects on the go to help raise the funds:
Ladies High Tea - attended by 120 ladies
'Potjiekos' competition (make a pot of food in a black pot on an open fire)
Christmas Carol evening
Shadow waitors - choir members help waitors at our local Spur for the evening, thereby earning a percentage of the sales for the evening.
Various raffles
Shopping centers / church performances
