Story

Needed by August 2020!Children and young people have been locked up for over three months and their emotional well-being is suffering. Lerato Community Initiative want to provide a summer outlet for the youth, through creative workshops, but they cannot afford to hire premises, which costs £4000.

Suitable spaces are out of reach for small community organisations, because of the costs. This means that the young people do not have good quality cultural experiences so that they can feel valued and release their potential to make positive contributions to their communities.

Young people need fun and inspiring activities and environments to help them come together SAFELY (in a time of Covid 19 anxiety), be constructive, creative and build resilience, preparing them to overcome further challenges and a return to schools in September.

Lerato, based in South London, can only have access to a suitable venue at a cost of £4000 and, having managed to raise funds for all other parts of their arts programme, they are short of the money for a venue and do not want to deprive up to forty young people of this chance to relax, create and be safe.

I believe that it is crucial for young people, particularly those from African and Caribbean heritage backgrounds, at this time, to have outlets for their imagination and emotions and Lerato have the skills to make this happen!

The Arts are tools for empowerment!

Please DONATE and make a real difference to the lives of young people in South London!
