San Stefanos (Agios Stefanos) is situated on the North West coast of the beautiful island of Corfu. A popular summertime village, it welcomes tourists year after year.

As with many areas of Corfu, San Stefanos has an ever growing community of Stray Cats living in several areas around the village. The numbers fluctuate, often increasing following mating seasons when tiny kittens are unwanted and cruelly discarded at a time when they are still in need of their mother's care - and the best nourishment only she can provide.

The San Stefanos Stray Cats Support Project was set up in 2017, and as a standalone project is fully responsible for fundraising to help provide the care needed for many stray cats. The aim of the project is to help homeless cats achieve a state of well-being with provision of adequate nourishment, general healthcare and Veterinary treatment as needed.

In order to prevent a huge surge in numbers, sterilisation is important and it also makes for a healthier happier cat. The Sterilisation Programme is a neverending task and is continually 'on the go' throughout the year.

A Vaccination Programme was introduced in 2022 to help prevent the spread of the most common feline viruses, focusing initially on the young and those who have been frail with recurrent health issues. This is also supported by fundraising.

Adoptions are sometimes possible depending on circumstances and health status of individual cats, and fostering can occasionally be arranged locally during the necessary travel preparation time. Both adoption and fostering costs are not covered by the San Stefanos Stray Cat Support Project but information and advice is readily available.
