Story

Hi all,

I am sure most of you already know that I have been lucky enough to visit South Africa three times already, twice with Mellon Educate (a wonderful charity!) and once through my university course, where I taught for five weeks in Port Elizabeth. Three times is not enough! So I am taking on another five weeks of teaching during the summer months. I have been so inspired by the people I have met during my other trips as well as the children who I have taught that I can't stay away.

The organisation I am travelling with this summer is called Camp South Africa who organise volunteering trips for young people who want to help make a difference in the lives of others.I will be mostly teaching English, but have a chance to do some sports coaching if I want. We will be going to two different schools throughout the weeks, supporting children who may be falling behind, children who need an extra push to achieve their best as well as teaching whole class lessons! Having done this previously I know how much of a challenge this can be due to the differences in the education systems, but I cannot wait to take this on again.

I have partially funded my trip myself. I know that I will be making a huge difference in changing the lives and education opportunities of some of the world's poorest children and this is why I am asking for support to help me, help others! When you see the smiles on all the happy faces that you help, every penny is worth it.

I am joining Camp South Africa on my own which is both scary and exciting but I'm sure I will meet some amazing new people. I wanted to have this wonderful opportunity before taking on a teaching job in the UK.

I appreciate any help you can give!
