Story

I have been in South Africa, Port Elizabeth for nearly three weeks working in a school. Here I have set up a reading scheme for children who are in grade 3 and 4 and are struggling with reading. It has been amazing watching each child progress as the weeks go on and they are making me so proud every day. However, despite the shelves in the library being full of books they are either in Afrikaans or are not suitable for teaching children how to read. Working with other volunteers we have went through every shelf looking for books to read. coming into the fourth week I want to go and buy new or second hand books for the children to continue reading and have a better selection to choose from. You can see from the photos that I have made my own phonics cards and word cards as there aren’t many resources to use to teach children how to read. That is why I am asking for some help! These children love to learn and it is incredible watching them develop a love for reading.

Any small donation will be much appreciated, thank you!
