Mabel was born at 27wks and spent the first 4mths of her life in Leeds children hospital , Once home we where happy as a family and getting used to having a tiny baby in the house again. Mabel started to get ill and would be vomiting up to 20 times a day and also choking in her sleep, This led to a number of tests and the start of Mabel’s journey which Leeds Children’s hospital would again become our home. After Mabel underwent a number of tests and meetings with consultants and surgeons we where told she had Nephrocalcinosis and kidney stones in both her little kidneys , We where told this was very rare in someone so small and that Mabel would need urgent surgery.

As you can imagine as parents you just want to hold your child and protect them and make it all better. But once meeting her team at Leeds Children’s hospital we knew she was in the best hands possible, She underwent major surgery at just a year old, To work on one of her kidneys and try and remove the stones. Walking into that recovery room and seeing your child covered in tubes and wires breaks you. But Mabel had true fighting spirit and showed us just how amazing she was.

Mabel came home two weeks later then the following week returned to hospital to have the same surgery on the other kidney, because over the next 5yrs Mabel would endure a further 28 surgeries this would lead to the staff at the hospital becoming our second family. Mabel had more surgery on her kidneys and also a Nissen fundoplication and an NG tube that was then replaced with a Gastrostomy tube inserted into her tummy to feed her as Mabel doesn’t eat and she needed vital fluids for her kidneys. Her team at The Leeds Children’s hospital are truly outstanding and they all adore and love Mabel and that shows every time you walk through those doors. Without them Mabel wouldn’t be here now.

Mabel is 5yrs old now and the most beautiful little girl with a fighting spirit to match and no matter what she goes through she shows us that you never give up.

Mabel is due to go into hospital again soon for more surgery but we know that she again will be in the best hands with the best care and she will show us all again what brave is.

We will forever be thankful to Leeds Children’s Hospital and everyone there for everything they do and if we can give just a little back for all they have done for us then we will continue to help.

Team Endeavour is a small Military charity that helps serving and veteran members of the armed forces, Through time of hardship poverty or illness.

They are completely relient on donations to continue there work, They have been a great support to our little Mabel when she needed specialists medical equipment.

I will be walking Hadrian’s Wall which is 84miles next September 2019 to help raise vital funds for these two amazing charity’s.

Please help and support if you can.

No one knows when they will need help and when you have a child with complex medical needs you do all you can to help.
