    Story

This page is Ian Dodds story, and updates on his epic fundraising efforts for Max Bailey.

Little Max has scoliosis. He needs to continue treatment to prevent his curve from impacting his internal organs and becoming life threatening again.

I want to help my friends incredibly brave son, so I've challenged myself to ride solo from Land’s End to John O’Groats. I expect to be cycling around 12 hours per day for 9 days, and expect to burn around 8,000 – 9,000 calories every day. I know what will keep me going during my low moments, is raising money for this very worthwhile cause………

There's no cure or management via the NHS - just surgery likely to disable him for life. It means inserting metal rods along the length of his spine. It's nasty, invasive surgery leaving a scar the full length of his back. He will require repeated surgeries every 3 to 6 months to lengthen the rods through his growth spurt from age 8 until12 and beyond. Ultimately he'll likely require his spine fused solid and be left with life-long disability and pain management.

There are routes to a better outcome through private treatments.

This irreversible surgery with life-long problems is simply not an option.
Max has conservative treatment that gave immediate results and he continues to improve. I invite you to follow his story to date on his Facebook page Maxipotential. It's fascinating, and lovely to see his progress. Ultimately, Max's parents hope it will help a lot more people as Max's fund transitions into a charity to spearhead innovation in the UK.

Max would like to say: 'Thank you for helping to fix my bendy back!"

Doddsy epic solo ride from Landsend to John O'Grotes is complete! This pic is at an absolute low point at Glen Coe ski resort in the middle of nowhere, as desolate a place as you can get, up in the mountains with a completely knackered wheel! He's really been through it to raise money for Max. For a few days it was agony for hour after hour. Ian has helped Scoliosis Awareness Month and raised over £2.5k for Max. Please share, and give Ian an extra lift by encourage friends to donate via https://padlock.link/doddsybikeride MANY THANKS!

Ian is half way through his solo bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats - travelling close to Max at home on his Birmingham to Lancaster leg. This pic is his entire luggage allowance. He must be a bit smelly in this heat! He says there are parts hurting he didn’t know existed, but all for a great cause. Raised over £1,800 so far. 😀 If you would like to help keep his little peggy's moving for the 2nd half of his epic trip - please share and encourage friends to donate a small amount via https://padlock.link/doddsybikeride MANY THANKS!

Hi, I'm Saz - Max's mum. I've spent the last 7 or so years immersed in helping Max realise his full potential. That's thrown me headlong into researching, exploring options, and battling expert opinion. I've proven surgery wrong before and this time it's so much more serious...
