Story

My work over the past few years has allowed me to meet many people with palliative care needs. Words simply can not express the amazing impact hospice services can have on a person’s life but I’ll give it a try anyway.

My Friends

I’ve met a number of amazing people of all ages, many of whom are now receiving end of life care and others who have already passed. There are two ladies however that stand out to me as being friends and it is for them that I will continue to fundraise for as long as I am able. Both of these friends left us far too soon, leaving families behind who I firmly believe are a testament to what kind hearted people these friends of mine were as, between these families, I have never before met such loving and generous people. Both of my friends and their loved ones were supported by hospice care which allowed them to focus on cherishing their time together rather than worrying about what came next.

St Lukes Hospice, Basildon

This hospice has grown an incredible amount, in 2014 for example was the official opening of the Day Hospice Therapeutic and Outpatient Annexe. This opened the window for an incredible variety of additional services ranging from cancer support groups to physiotherapy and complimentary therapies. The OneResponce service was also launched, operating 24/7 as a point of contact between patients and professionals. Of course this all comes at a cost and for the fiscal year 2016/17 their core running costs to keep all services running were budgeted to be just over £5.5 million. I would like to see this hospice continue to grow and that is the reason I will be raising money for them.
