Story
My beautiful 10 year old cousin Kiera was diagnosed with a rare brain condition called acute necrotising encephalomyelitis following a sickness bug which quickly turned to hallucinations, loss of co-ordination and slurred speech. She became unresponsive and was put on a ventilator at Birmingham Childrens Hospital where she spent a few days in intensive care. When she woke she was unable to walk or talk, she couldnt eat so was tube fed and had no way to communicate. She underwent steroid treatment and a gruelling process of plasma exchange therapy. She made massive improvements with the helpof physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psycholigists at BCH where she stayed for 13 weeks. She was then allowed home to await a place at The Childrens Trust Tadworth which is a specialist centre in Surrey for children with brain injuries. She still attends BCH weekly for appointments and we have previously held a family fun day in aid of them. Now we want to raise as much money as possible for the childrens trust as they do such fantastic work for these children every day.
