Story

On the morning of the 5th of October 2011 we went into our local maternity ward to be induced to finally meet our perfect baby boy, he was born on the 7th of October at 5.57pm (16 days over due) by emergancy c-section after things quickly went downhill, he was perfectly healthy up until the last few hours of labour where it was found he was in major distress.. he was stuck side on! A test was carried out by our midwife and a doctor during this time to check his blood brain gas, which would show Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE).. (oxygen starvation) the tests failed to pick this up twice, however on the third test it confirmed he was suffering from oxygen starvation and that is when i was rushed to theater. Archie was born, but unresponsive, after a few very frightening minutes of resusitation we finally heard his cry! All seemed fine with our beautiful new baby boy, he was breast feeding perfectly, his eyes were open and he was enjoying his first cuddles with me, his daddy and all the family that were eagerly awaiting his arrival! Hours later we were taken up to the mother and baby ward, it was the early hours of the following morning when our nurse came to check on him where they found him to be in a grand mal seizure and hypoxic shock. He was rushed to neonatal and put in a induced coma to protect his brain from the seizures and hypoxia that were killing our boys brain. 8 days later he was slowely brought out of his medically induced coma and taken for a MRI scan which would show significant brain damage. We were told it was up to him if he would survive this! And well, HE DID! Boy did he fight!! We knew he was going to be ok and we were ready for whatever his precious little self would need from us. Myself along with his daddy have been fighting for Archie since the day he blessed our lives!

6 years later.. hes a truly amazing little character! He just loves everything about life! He has the best little personality and just loves to laugh and make people laugh! He can not walk and gets around by bottom shuffling and kneel walking, when outdoors hes confined to his wheelchair, he has a range of 10-15 words but moslty communicates through the use of makaton sign language and picture prompts. He has to take all fluids through a feeding device in his stomach due to a unsafe swallow (he can however eat most soft foods because they go down the throat a lot slower then water), he has very frightening epilepsy and a condition known as startle reflex disorder which is the same reflex seen in babies but Archies has never gone away.

So why have i made this page? Well we moved into a adapted bungalow which serves all of his needs well except the back garden.. its very uneven & very unsafe for Archie to access Which is a huge shame because he just loves nature and being outside! We live on a valley so the garden is part of that. To make it safe we need it to be levelled with fake grass (he puts things in his mouth..grass, stones, bugs so this is the safest option) then a little soft ground play area on what is now a very rough concrete patio unfortunately our local council have refused to help. We have had a company come out and qoute us just under £11000 So were hoping to raise something towards that. He just needs his own perfect little oasis where he can explore and be independant. We know this is a big ask but its worth a try to get our amazing little boy the garden he deserves and so very much needs 💙

Attached at the top ^^ is a copy of the qoute.
