Story

Sarah Jane Baker is an artist, musician and an activist. She spent thirty years in prison, enduring extreme physical and psychologial abuse inside the system. While inside, she published a book (Transgender Behind Prison Walls) and produced numerous pieces of artwork, some of which has been exhibited at the Turner Contemporary, the Southbank Centre and Westminster Central Hall.

Since being released from prison last year she has worked hard to develop her art further, as well as using it as a tool for political campaigning around prisoners' rights, trans rights and gentrification. She set up the Trans Prisoner Alliance to support trans people inside prisons and has also become an active member of other groups organising for progressive social change.

Due to the numerous barriers for people who have served long sentences in prison, it is extremely difficult for Sarah to support herself financially at the moment. She needs financial support to pay rent and keep her housing, to keep on top of bills and to be able to travel in order to continue and develop her work as an artist and activist.

Anything you can donate will be much appreciated! If you are able to make a regular monthly donation, please consider this as this kind of financial stability will make a huge difference to Sarah's situation.
