Story
In April, as part of an education and training day for my job as a nurse in Raigmore hospital, I heard about the work of Rhoda Patterson (Charge nurse of Oncology) and Dr Bal (a consultant of diabetic medecine) in Punjab in India. They travelled to India in January 2017 to provide medical care and advice for patients requiring cancer care, by way of a clinic.
Rhoda shared her story with us, and humbled us with her harrowing and emotional experience.
What shocked us was how, even the fortunate, with money to access medical care, could not receive effective and informed care.
And how those less fortunate, could not afford simple drugs and helpful advise to make them, at best, comfortable during their final days. Drugs which to us in the UK, cost pennies.
So, inspired by the wonderful work that Rhoda and Dr Bal were able to provide to the people of Punjab during their visit, I have decieed try and raise some money for them to take with them on their next trip. I will (attempt to) run the Baxters 10k in September in Inverness in aid of this, and would be very grateful for any and all donations 😊
