Weʼve raised £40 to SAVE SUNSHINE PRE SCHOOL GAMLINGAY

Funded on Sunday, 16th July 2017

    Story

Parents have been informed of the proposed closure of Sunshine pre-school Gamlingay at the end of this academic year (2017).

The pre-school has been struggling financially for some time now and both staff and committee have fought tirelessly against the Parish Council to lower the rent but have been repeatedly unsuccessful.

As the main users of the WI Hall in Gamlingay Sunshine are responsible for the upkeep of the back garden, the hall is also in a poor condition which the council have admitted to publically on social media and is to be decommissioned next year. Despite this the Parish Council seem to think it is acceptable to charge an extremely high rent. Over the last few years they have been approached to consider a reduction but unfortunately this has not happened.

More recently the committee have had endless meetings with local authority's and councillors to try to find a solution but unfortunately we kept coming back to the same one, that Sunshine pre-school is not sustainable.

As parents we are standing together to not allow this to happen!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help us to keep our pre-school open so that the 26 children who attend can carry on attending the setting they love.

Sadly the body of parents who showed interest at last Thursdays EGM (6th July) have refused committee positions at a further meeting on monday (10th July). There were two reasons for this 1). The child numbers had dropped dramatically to 4 funded children to start in September. 2) The PLA planned to hold a grant promised on the understanding the pre school stayed open, until they had made their own negotiations. On this new information no one took positions. & no new committee was formed. All money raised will still go to Sunshine.

Our Sports day on 24th June raised £464 which is a fantastic start to helping Sunshine. This weekend we have a stall at Gamlingay First School Fayre selling 2nd hand books & Children's dressing up outfits on 1st July. Then on Sunday 2nd July we will be at Gamlingay's Eco Hub for Picnic On The Pitch selling hand made jewelry & hopefully Fruit cups. With the EGM meeting looming we continue to do all we can to save Sunshine Pre School. I would like to thank The Co-op Gamlingay Fir organizing a raffle for us.
